Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Online

NEW: Spring Quarter 2022 at DU will be in-person. This section will tell you whether or not the campaign will meet online. It will be listed under the Game System, Edition, & Stats section of the campaign descriptions.

If the online section says, “I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!,” this campaign will run in-person unless it shifts back to online for the quarter.
If the online section says, “I’ll be GMing online!,” this campaign will run solely online.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, D&D has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Combat-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Open World
  • First Time DM

Amanda’s Campaign Description

For a group of Fiend-worshipping warlocks, the news that a tremendously powerful sorcerer was being created by their deity was a cause for celebration. Less so, was the fact they couldn’t tell which of the three children they were bestowed with was this child. And that is where you come in. Hoping exposure to danger and magic would be enough to bring out the magical tendencies of their antichrist, the cultists have enlisted a group of adventurers to bring the children on their travels. It is up to you to discover the mysteries of the Fiend’s baby and decide how the child will impact the world.

Amanda’s Notes

Hi everyone! This should be a relatively straightforward campaign. No PVP and no murderhobos. Due to the setting, I’m limiting clerics and paladins. While you’re welcome to play one, overwhelming religious zealotry isn’t going to be one of their character traits.

Engaging with the city’s darkest elements, enacting mob justice, and picking fights with multinational corporations are all in a day’s work.

In this campaign, you will work with your team to complete gigs offered to you by your fixer, the legendary Rogue Amendiares. Recently, she’s picked up a new job for you and your crew, one unlike anything you’ve ever attempted before.

So, chip in! Check that all your implants are working, and ask yourself: would you rather die old or go out in a blaze of glory?

Brian’s Notes

We will be using the Cyberpunk Red System, but adapting it for the year 2077, so all the stuff that would be available in that time including equipment is available for use.

By the end of this campaign, all the player characters will die. such is the life of an edge-runner. keep in mind that your death will be meaningful for the people around you, but mission success is not guaranteed.

The Cielo Dominion, a colonial empire that controls 25% of the known world, seeks to finance any and all expeditions that help quench its mechanical ruler’s insatiable thirst for expansion. The latest of these expeditions journeys into the far-flung tundras of the Dwarven Tsardom of Bonolov in order to assist the Tsar in rooting out a mysterious supernatural threat from his kingdom’s mines.

Henry’s Notes

Players can expect a long-running and open-ended tonally serious lower magic campaign with an immense, lived-in world that features a good mix of roleplay and combat.

John’s Campaign Description

Between the realms of the Fey and the Shadowfell lies a hidden land lost to time where both dreams and nightmares come to life. For many, this place is just a myth, a cautionary tale to scare children not to wander out into the woods at night. Unfortunately for the brave souls trapped here, the prison is all too real. In this 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons campaign, players will be trapped in an ominous realm that borders both the Feywild and the Shadowfell. In order to survive, they will have to sneak, fight, solve puzzles, meet the denizens of this strange world, and break their way out of this prison to find a way home.

Monsterhearts 2

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 5
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Modern Setting
  • LGBTQ
  • No Combat

Fiona’s Campaign Description

Everyone has their inner demons, but most aren’t as literal as yours. MH2 is about the messy lives of teenage monsters. An exploration of independence and identity through the metaphor of the supernatural. A game about hurting people you love and making bad decisions – but also cherishing yourself and protecting what’s important. A game about queerness, identity and culture. Set in a dreary college town straight out of a YA-novel. At Lovejoy High, you struggle to balance a normal life with… your darker side. You’re all monsters, and we explore these relationships through the lens of teenage angst, drama and cringe. This game has dark themes and will be very roleplay heavy (no combat)- so please look into the system and make sure it works for you. That said it’ll be a super fun campaign ^^

Fiona’s Notes

We will be using Lines and Veils ad well as the X Card to ensure that this campaign can stay a safe place for everyone. Additionally, this game will be very gay! LGBTQ players and characters encouraged. Session 0 will be to learn the system & make characters ^^ Please reach out to me (fiona.bolen@du.edu) beforehand for more information about rules, themes, the metaphor of queerness as monstrosity, or the system as a whole.

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium

SJ’s Campaign Description

Chicago lies between the border of two-dimensional planes- by day, the city is your typical midwestern culture capital- but by night, every resident transforms into a magical adventurer version of themselves! This “second life” is wiped from the memory of the people of the city after sunrise and before sunset- except for you, the few who are chosen to protect the Second City. Recently, a new threat has arisen. The people of the Second City have been losing their magical abilities, a new company is polluting the streets with toxic sludge, and a giant crack has formed across the Bean. What could these strange events mean? It’s up to you to solve the supernatural mystery and save Chicago!

SJ’s Notes

My homebrew rules:

1) Rule of Cool

2) F.A.A.F.O. (F*ck around and find out) *If one player says this phrase and two other players agree, the story will take a dramatic turn instead of a player rolling for a skill check.*

3) Yes And! *Attempt to use improv rules- say yes and to story ideas, work off each other, etc. Exception: see rule #4.*

4) No Means No – I or any player can veto an interaction if they are uncomfortable or do not consent to the current situation.

5) Counterfeat Trades *Character creation is rolled/manual, however, players may negotiate counterfeats to boost stats.
