Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Online

NEW: Fall Quarter 2021 at DU will be mostly in-person. Some campaigns will be meeting online. This section will tell you whether or not the campaign will meet online. It will be listed under the Game System, Edition, & Stats section of the campaign descriptions.

If the online section says, “I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!,” this campaign will run in-person unless it shifts back to online for the quarter.
If the online section says, “I’ll be GMing online!,” this campaign will run solely online.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, D&D has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

What brought you to the Icewind Dale and what secrets will you have?

This is the D&D 5E campaign Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, set in the Forgotten Realms.

Dungeons and Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 5
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Open World
  • Combat-Optional
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Mystery/Intrigue
  • Folk Horror
  • Tight-Setting

Alex “Bones”‘s Campaign Description

A call for a rush delivery isn’t the only thing that brings you to the small village of Settersbrook, but it does rope you into a strange and winding mystery. The village is on the cusp of a major holiday, but the population is uneasy. Religious tensions are high, masked figures dart through the night, and several locals report being stalked through the woods by an unnervingly tall woman. In frightening times such as these, adventurers must take care when untangling, circling, and threading through the woods’ many mysteries.

Alex “Bones”‘s Notes

Feel free to ask questions (come up to me, or email w.niedy@gmail.com)! This’ll be a collaborative campaign, please don’t join if you want many PvP or PvDM elements. It’s intended to have some horror themes and we’ll use some safety tools. Players will need to send a 1+ page character doc (with a connection to the area, goals, backstory, etc.) to me over winter break. I’ll need it early-ish because a tight setting and other weird stuff will make character integration a little harder on my end. You’ll also almost certainly have one character throughout. We’ll start at level 3 and go to ~10. If you want some ideas of themes/creatures/stuff that might be already present, I can send you a list of campaign tags!

Allison Fox

Allison’s Campaign Description

The ancient empire of Giants has collapsed into bloody civil war, leaving the occupied Human country of Mennex to declare independence for the first time in a millennium. But it is only a matter of time before the competing Giant factions turn their eyes to the newly-free land, and as the ice of the north thaws with the spring, so too will the war. Lady Carmen has put out the call for mercenaries and adventurous individuals to guard the northern border, offering a payment you cannot resist. But once the peace breaks, which battlefields will you find yourselves on? And what sort of messed up monster statblocks will Allison make you fight?

Allison’s Notes

I’ll be sending out background info over winter break, and I’d like to work with players to have characters established before the first session if possible so we can jump right into the story! I’m super lenient with supplementary and 3rd-party sources, just run them by me. You know the drill. I just want you to make cool characters that you enjoy playing and others enjoy playing with! 🙂 (but yes, psionics are banned for REAL this time)

But when several of his victims are brought together during Detective Brindan’s investigation, they band together to try to put a stop to Ghomox for good. The only issue is that they have to find him first!

Andy’s Notes

The Starfinder Core Rulebook is available for free online. If you, like me, haven’t played Starfinder before, please at least look over the rules. I’m not expecting experts or anything, but I’d like people to kind of have an idea of how it works. I’m also planning on doing a session 0.

Dungeons & Dragons

Brian’s Campaign Description

Since the dragons were driven south by The Empire, the people of Tonan’s Basin and the tribes of the Orrery Mountains have lived separate but harmonious lives. As the empire continues its slow, painful collapse, something plots and schemes from within its frozen depths. Something which plans to set what remains to ashes, and build anew an empire of dragonsfire, steel, and blood. “As was always the dream. As will one day become reality.” The tribes of The Orrery have broken the terms they agreed to over 300 years ago and have followed to the letter in good faith since. Only the goblins are willing to share what drives their people south from their ancestral homeland, but few are willing to take a goblin’s word for fact. Especially when their word means the end of Tonan’s Basin and The Empire.

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 2 Quarters

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World

Haley’s Campaign Description

Our journey begins in the crowded roads of Pallia, a bustling sea port in the country of Strata. Strata is home to the Noble family Eovese, and the players are invited to a once in a lifetime masquerade ball at their castle. Things quickly take a dark turn, as it is revealed the family is not as perfect as they seem and a darkness is spreading fast.

Haley’s Notes

The setting will be high fantasy in DnD 5e. Some subject matters will be dark. The adventure will be roleplay and story heavy. We will be ignoring spell components. It would be best to have a healer in the party. There are no banned races or classes.

Dungeon and Dragons

5th Edition

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • Backstory-incorporated

Isla’s Campaign Description

The city of Carrowmore faces a flood of apocalyptic proportions after the ancient dam collapses. Mutated flora and fauna leak into the city, and the population is beset by horrors from beyond. Word spreads, gathering the brave and the foolish to traverse the land beyond the dam and into The Deep Carbon Observatory. A low combat campaign with a high focus on exploration, role-play, and world building.

Isla’s Notes

No lucky feat.

No murder hobo.

No chaotic or neutral evil aligned characters.

PVP is allowed, but please don’t be a jerk. PvP should be a last resort and mainly a justified narrative choice. If you want to use an exotic race or class (like from Eberron, Ravnica, or Wildemount) you have to ask permission. Same goes for UA; simply ask me, and we can figure something out.

Jacob’s Campaign Description

The Galaxy, or ‘Verse is a wide place, full of every sci-fi trope and threat imaginable. From self-aware robot factories that just disappear to gunslinging ameboids with a goop for every situation, people in the ‘Verse of Dark Matter are used to weird stuff. Robots all across the ‘Verse receive an alert of a factory in danger, sending them plunging into insanity. At the same time, seemingly random people all across the ‘Verse start remembering a forgotten planet, it’s up to you to solve this galaxy-wide series of events! Are they related? Who is behind them?

Jacob’s Notes

This is using 5th edition rules for Dungeons and Dragons. We will be high power level with planet wide threats and unique combats. We will start at level 8. Warlocks are discouraged due to a lack of short rests. Monks are also discouraged/restricted. We will be using two other core books: Valda’s Spire of Secrets and Dark Matter for expanded subclasses/classes/spells. Spaceships exist, and use a new system called mega hit points. 3D printed miniatures are encouraged due to grid combat. Same for spaceship combat. If DM or VSoS is not posted just dm me.

Dungeons and Dragons

5th edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 5
Commitment Level: 5
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate

Juliet’s Campaign Description

The World is Yours! This is a backstory based campaign. I will build the entire campaign over winter break using your characters’ backstories. Expect a standard magic and monsters campaign. There is a 3 page MINIMUM length for your character’s backstories, sent to me by December 3. This campaign takes place in the Sword Coast. Character guidelines and limitations are detailed in the player notes. More than anything, write whatever seems fun! I am open to most ideas, and I will talk with you to balance them. I will be less able to work in any backstory sent later than Dec 3.

Juliet’s Notes

Players start at level 8. No NE or CE alignment. Lucky feat is banned. UA is banned until it gets formally released (or ask and I’ll rebalance it with you). All TCoE optional class and race features are legal if you inform me. I will make you calculate carrying capacity and weight. Feel free to use locations from the Sword Coast, or create your own and I’ll add them to the best of my ability. The pantheons used are the Forgotten Realms and Racial Deities. For info on setting or gods, I recommend the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide on the D&D Beyond (email the exec board for access). If you have any questions about rules or concepts, feel free to contact me using my DU email, by text, or via Discord.

Xavier Goines

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World

Xavier’s Campaign Description

With the stresses of college piling on, you seek an escape. Your travels bring you to an interesting game: Book of Almas. The description reads as follows: “The world of Leibris is torn by a war between the gods Lothis, Dixeus, Myren, and Bixdos. The continents split into factions based on which god they follow. Uncover the lore behind the pantheon and the origin of the war as you seek to bring peace to both the world and the gods.” As you begin the game, however, you notice something odd. NPCs slowly come to life and the plot shifts around the growth of the real world rather than your progress in the game. All of a sudden, this is much more than a game.

Xavier’s Notes

We will be using a Style Point (SP) system and an In Game Level (IGL) system. SP functions as a makeshift exp system and IGL is mostly for flavor. Every 10 SP gives 1 character level. IGL is the character level times 10 + SP. For instance, a level 7 character with 8 SP would have an IGL of 78 and would be on the verge of character level 8 (IGL 80).
