Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Online

NEW: Spring Quarter 2022 at DU will be in-person. This section will tell you whether or not the campaign will meet online. It will be listed under the Game System, Edition, & Stats section of the campaign descriptions.

If the online section says, “I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!,” this campaign will run in-person unless it shifts back to online for the quarter.
If the online section says, “I’ll be GMing online!,” this campaign will run solely online.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, D&D has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

Brian’s and Jarob’s Campaign Description

In the ages of old, the people of the islands of Krisska were punished for their greed by the gods. Storms pummeled the islands until the sands were turned to glass.

After the storms subsided, the new port town of Retempeste became part of a critical trade route, a site to repair ships, restock, and prepare for adventure. But the ocean is not a kind mistress, and even now, as success begins to bloom once more, there are those who would rock the boat.

Rumors say that a new band of pirates roam the coasts, pirates that raise the flag of the old Krisska; one that was thought to be buried in glass.

You are a Privateer crew hired by Retempeste to hunt down these foes, brave the dangers of the seas, uncover secrets buried by the gods, and fight plenty of pirates!

Brian’s and Jarob’s Notes

Before the game starts, we would like each player to contact us with an stl file or another form of file for a character mini they will be using in game. We are more than willing to assist in the acquisition of the minis, and we will be handling production of the minis (unless you have something else in mind). This campaign will cover levels 2 onward. Have questions or need help with minis? Send an email to Brian!

In 1963, a nuclear detonation under the Nevada desert knocked a hole in reality. The bomb blew through spacetime and into a new plane of existence. The hole was officially named the “Subterrestial Operational Theater”, but lower level government employees and intern scientists are currently calling it “The Dungeon”. Your life is connected to The Dungeon. Whether you lost someone in it, or your work led you to it, you need to discover its secrets. Balancing your real life with your Dungeon life is a dangerous line, and one that could lead to your death. What are you willing to sacrifice?

Jacob’s Notes

I will email you more details. For now, make Monster of the Week hunters that have a reason to want to explore the dungeon.

Dungeons and Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 1
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 2 Quarters

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Medium

Xavier’s Campaign Description

Welcome to the World of Leibris, wherein you will settle a war between gods. Join players and NPCs as you explore an open world and address conflict as it glitches into existence. Though this campaign is continuing from last quarter, we will be following the plot from a point that is easy to jump into.

Xavier’s Notes

I use a Stackable Inspiration system, which is exactly what it sounds like, but I will clarify everything about it during our first meeting. Magic is taboo in some parts of the world, but feel free to make a caster regardless. PvP is allowed, but discouraged. Don’t worry about encumbrance, (normal) ammo, or spell components.

Dungeons and Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Gothic Horror
  • Semi-Linear
  • Exploration-Heavy
  • Shenanigans-Medium

Zoe’s Campaign Description

You have heard tales of a kingdom shrouded in mist and loaded with treasure. Unfortunately for you, there’s a catch: no one who goes into the fog ever comes out. Behind the veil lies a city overgrown by nature, hordes of the damned, and at the center of it all an impenetrable fortress. Trapped in a dead land and surrounded by corruption, you must fight to survive, to break the ancient curse of this land, and to get home in one piece. Can you survive the horrors at the heart of Agaria?

Zoe’s Notes

I’m not going to be asking for a full backstory, but I will ask players to fill out a backstory form so that I can get a good idea of your character’s motivations and potentially work them into the campaign.

Characters start at level 3, and the lucky feat is banned for all except halflings. I’m also going to be providing a few homebrew player races that I’ve created in this setting. Additional setting notes are that humans tend to be fairly rare.

This is a custom setting, so if you want to play fast and loose with a player race (or if you just have any fun ideas), let me know, and we can work something out.

Also, please come in with collaboration in mind. This means no chaotic/neutral evil characters, no PvP (unless you can justify it narratively), and no murder hobo-ing.

Dungeons & Dragons

Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Combat-Light
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Open World
  • Exploration-Focused

Joey’s Campaign Description

You’re a band of adventurers who have heard about the legend of a ship called The Daydreamer. The legend states that it was a whaling ship caught in an eternal struggle against an enormous whale-like beast. You and your party set out to search for the legendary vessel, but your ship is wrecked in a terrible storm. You awake to see the bow of The Daydreamer right in front of you, and they help you aboard. You must descend down into The Beast, navigate the ruins of the ancient kingdom that occupied it, and hope that you can find a way to escape.

Joey’s Notes

Disclaimer: This is not an ocean campaign. Very little of this campaign will take place on a boat, instead you’ll be exploring an ancient kingdom and learning the secrets of its past.

Joe’s Campaign Description

In the ancient country of Gepty, the Eb-nau river runs strong and brings all those who live there prosperity. But, dark portents have shown that a great conflict is to come and bring suffering to all. In the northern deserts, a new power is rising to return the country of Gepty to the dark age. The Pharaoh, Ra-ua-hab, has called upon a collection of mercenaries to tend to a sensitive matter to restore order to his land. A matter that will only be the beginning of your troubles.

Joe’s Notes

Please have a character ready by the first session and post info into Discord.

All players will start at level 8, single class. In the country of Gepty, the races uncommon to the country are dwarves, elves, gnomes, triton, and warforged. There are other countries in this world with these races, so if you want to be foreign to the lands, just ask. The religious pantheon of this country is based on the Egyptian pantheon: Ra, Anubis, Set, Baset, etc.

Savage Worlds

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Open World
  • Backstory-Focused

Allison’s Campaign Description

Fire and Motion! Shadow and Flesh! On a far-off planet where the arcane elements rain from the sky and the Lonely Alchemist sits in his Agarthan tower, the Kaahol-Wearing Men have deemed you a menace to the public order of the city. Escape their clutches and take off into the wasteland! Things may be starting to fall apart once again, but everyone, from the Gender-clones of the crater to the northern diesel nomads, is used to chaos at this point. How will you carve out your place in a world long since gone mad? Find out by entering the post-post-apocalypse inspired by such New Weird classics as Mad Max: Fury Road and Kill Six Billion Demons. I hope you like prog rock.

Allison’s Notes

I haven’t played Savage Worlds but I’m excited to learn! This will be a fast-paced story that’s not too focused on mechanics. I’m just here to help the players tell the pulpy action fantasies of their dreams. Character creation will happen at the beginning of the first session so that people can make interconnected backstories and I can help everyone with the rules. My only rule for characters is that they gotta be weird.

Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Linear

Juliet’s Campaign Description

You are adventurers in the realm of Beef’s Keep, where the nations have been splintered over major disagreements on how to treat the realm’s people. Creepingvale and the United Clown Nation have led their people into a collective darkness known as The Deep Freeze. While the rest of the world currently feels like a desolate place, your party resides in the one nation that remains a true beacon of hope: Freshtovia. The fight for fresh beef lies in your hands!

Juliet’s Notes

This is the official Wendy’s RPG (yes, the fast food chain). The official website is unfortunately down, but the rulebook is in the players’ compendium. Session 1 will be dedicated to introducing you to the world and helping you build characters.

At 7:30pm every week, I plan to move us to the Wendy’s nearby ECS. We will walk there, start playing there, and return to ECS at 10pm when the store closes. I’ll discuss more details about this plan at the start of the first session in ECS.

Isla’s Campaign Description

The mile-high metropolis known as Spire once belonged to the drow, shadar-kai, and pallid elves. Now, Spire belongs to a reckless and tyrannical dynasty of high elves known as the Aelfir Empire. Rebellion and opposition to these oppressors has been futile–until now. An explosion of dangerous magic in the upper section of Spire has turned the tides and sent the Aelfir leadership into panic. How far will you go for the revolution, and what sacrifices will you make to see the Aelfir Empire toppled?

Isla’s Notes

– Players will be beginning the campaign at level five.

– The Spire setting has custom backgrounds and magic items that I will be sending to players.

– The Lucky Feat is banned.

Monsterhearts 2

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
World Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Low Mortality-Rate

Fiona’s Campaign Description

Everyone has their inner demons, but most aren’t as literal as yours. You’ve changed. Now darkness fills your heart and you find yourself lashing out at the people you thought you loved. You are a monster. On top of it all, school weighs you down and puts you on edge–you feel the bad decisions brimming just under the surface. Monsterhearts is a story about sexy monsters, teenage angst and horror, and trying to survive and find yourselves. This game is focused on roleplay and having complex relationships, making bad decisions, and dealing with the consequences. Explore your identity, sexuality, gender, and culture. Although this campaign might deal with some dark themes, we will implement safety systems such as lines and veils to make this game’s priority to be a safe space for everyone.

Fiona’s Notes

If you are not familiar with the system, session 0 will be used to learn, make characters, and set up the game! We will also decide whether to be in college or high school, and talk about what lines we want to draw. 🙂
