Key

New Campaigns are at the top and any Continuing Campaigns will be at the bottom of the list.

Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, D&D has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

Alex “Bones” Niederberger

I’d rather be a DM, but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Dungeons & Dragons

  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Tight-Setting
  • Interconnected World
  • Puzzle-Heavy

Alex’s Campaign Description

There’s something on the horizon. Several days ago, messengers brought news of a massive eldritch creature heading straight for the city of Elricshold. Fearing the city’s destruction, your party of seasoned adventurers has been brought together to delve into an ancient hero’s crypt, retrieve their lost weapon, and strike down whatever comes. The incoming unknown grows closer every minute and-
-you’re going to have just enough time.
-you’re not going to have enough time.

Alex’s Notes

We’ll start at level 10 and probably end around 15. You’ll likely have 1 character throughout, and note the entire campaign is basically going to take place in one city that your character is likely foreign to, so when planning personal goals/arcs, keep that in mind. Over the end of winter quarter and spring break, we’ll solidify your character (over email or zoom) so I can flesh out the bones of the campaign to focus on your PCs.
Let’s keep this collaborative, so PVP should be pretty low, and remember I’m not working to undermine y’alls so let’s communicate well! I’ll email shortly after placement, but if you have any questions, DM me on Discord @soundsofbones#0494 .

Andy Schiff

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Goblin-Heavy
  • First Time DM

Andy’s Campaign Description

Chorgakk, the bugbear lord of Blackstone Cavern, is sick of living in a cave just because he is not part of one of the “civilized races”. He thinks the nearby city of Glimmerport would be the perfect place for “monsters” to live. His goblin underlings aren’t enough to take the city alone, though. You and your party are recruited to put together an alliance of goblins, kobolds, and more. Can you create an army to bring Chorgakk’s plan to fruition and take over Glimmerport?

Andy’s Notes

A limited selection of races will be allowed, including goblins, kobolds, and orcs, and some races from this homebrew.

If you want more information about which races are allowed, or anything else really, you can email me at andy.schiff@du.edu or message me on Discord @Chonkerino#3419 .

Ashton Foster

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • Sometimes Humorous, Sometimes Serious

Ashton’s Campaign Description

Wave Echo Cave is a legendary mine rich with material wealth and magical power. The legends say it could be located near the the town of Phandalin, but none have ever succeeded in finding it. While staying in the city of Neverwinter your friend, a dwarf by the name of Gundren Rockseeker, hires you and your party to escort a wagon to Phandalin.

Ashton’s Notes

Lost Mine of Phandelver is a short D&D 5e module designed to introduce new players to the world of D&D. Lost Mine of Phandelver begins at level 1 and is designed to go up to level 5. Please plan accordingly; your character’s backstory should be indicative of a novice adventurer, not a well-seasoned hero who has killed a god or fought an entire army single-handedly. The module gets pretty tough with a few of its encounters so I’ll do my best to adjust them if need be.

Chelsie Fincher

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

There’s just one catch: if you stop making active attempts to find your soulmate, you’ll die a gruesome death. It’s kiss or be killed in the deadliest dating sim in all of existence!

Chelsie’s Notes

PvP allowed. Chosen and Monstrous playbooks are banned. Anticipate homebrewed dating sim mechanics. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve run this system; please be patient with me. Stay safe, stay warm. ❤️️

Isla Lader

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • Backstory Incorporative

Isla’s Campaign Description

John Napoleon Darling, eccentric billionaire and secretive archmage, has posted a ten-thousand gold reward for any mercenary party willing to travel into the Feywild and return his lost nephew and niece unharmed. Unbeknownst to the party, a tragedy haunts the Darling family. Some things can’t be wished away on a second star to the right.

Isla’s Notes

Player characters will start at level ten. No neutral evil nor chaotic evil alignments. No PvP. I am earnestly begging you to be a team player. Cooperation pays off in this game. If you want to use content from UA, Wildemount, Ravnica, etc., I am willing to workshop that with you. If you choose to do that, though, please notify me at least three days in advance of the campaign. If you want your backstory incorporated into the world, please let me know at least a week in advance of the campaign. Your characters must be adults; I don’t feel comfortable having anyone play out the teenage “Chosen One” trope while I swear like a sailor.

Joseph Jaggers

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Dungeons & Dragons

Joseph’s Campaign Description

In a land of ancient power and rich history, the Nation of Theros is ripe with adventure. Hunt mythical creatures and artifacts, venture to the Underworld, and follow in the footsteps of legendary heroes. Each step you take is a step towards greatness!

Joseph’s Notes

This campaign mainly follows the rules of Mythic Odyssey of Theros. The only deities allowed are the Gods/Goddesses of Theros. Warlocks can only use the Celestial, Archfey, and Undying subclasses. Elves, Half-Elves, Gnomes, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Simic Hybrids, Yuan-Ti, Kenku, Bugbears, Orcs, Half-Orcs, Loxodons, and Vedalken are all banned. With the exception of mounted creatures such as horses, there are no flying or land vehicles. The common races in Theros are Humans, Centaurs, Leonins, Minotaurs, Satyrs, and Tritons. Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Open World

June’s Campaign Description

Welcome one and all to Sharn, the City of Towers! In Khorvaire, Sharn is the center of everything from finances to magical study to trade, and is the single largest city in the entire world. There’s something for everyone in Sharn, so why are you here?
This campaign will be built based upon character backstories and themes discussed and agreed upon in session 0. It will take place in the Eberron setting from Eberron: Rising from the Last War. In general, Eberron tends towards pulp adventure, mystery, intrigue, and exploration, so keep this in mind when thinking of characters!
This campaign requires at least a 3 page backstory.

June’s Notes

Starting level: 6, ending level: 8-10
Veterans and new players welcome!
Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything lineage rules are allowed (as well as pretty much every optional rule). UA/homebrew allowed with DM approval. I want to see you bring interesting, creative, and driven characters, so if you bring me a cool concept I will most likely ok it!
First session will be a session 0 to establish party boundaries, meet everyone, and work together to help link together each other’s backstories and discuss themes to help with party cohesion and plot writing.

Eberron is an industrialized magic setting where magic is ubiquitous and substitutes the role for technology in our world. Our adventure will start 2 years after the end of the Last War, a cataclysmic 100 year long conflict. If you are unfamiliar with this setting, the DUDAD exec board has a copy of Eberron: Rising from the Last War in their D&D Beyond account, which I encourage you to read. However, you do not need to have extensive knowledge of the lore.

Kylie Dillinger & Riley Manifold

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 2
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • PvP Optional

Kylie & Riley’s Campaign Description

You have been invited to join the mysterious Games House. Little is known for sure about this organization, but stories are varied and wild. Anything and everything is rumored to be able to be traded away here, from skills with a bow to life itself.

Kylie & Riley’s Notes

Rule of Cool reigns supreme!
This campaign is more like a series of one-shots with an option for a plot, but not a requirement. It’ll be based more around what the players are in the mood to do that session.
We intend to alter the way players can level up. Instead of doing normal level ups, we’ll start at a moderately high level (probs 13), and you can improve your character by winning games against NPCs (or other party members!) for those skills. For example, you could bet your strength against someone else’s proficiency with thieves tools in a game of checkers. If you win the game of checkers, you get proficiency in thieves tools and your opponent loses that ability. If you lose the game of checkers, you swap strength scores with your opponent.
We do request that you count ammunition.

Marcus Joseph Arthur McGuire

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition (w/ some homebrew)

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 5
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • Improv-Heavy
  • Sci-fi
  • Chaotic

Marcus’s Campaign Description

The mining planet, Fredones, is home to people of all races and backgrounds. They are brought together by a single, universal experience: being dirt poor. This is your home! When an untraceable broadcast is sent out looking for volunteers to go on a dangerous, but highly profitable escapade across the galaxy, who are you to say no?

Marcus’s Notes

This world has both melee and futuristic weaponry (pg 268, Dungeon Master’s Guide). All futuristic weapons count as martial, and melee weapons will be adjusted to match theme/damage type (unless you want to just hit robots with a normal sword, I’m not your dad). Also, spells work the same and originate from the same places they would in traditional D&D lore. For this campaign I’m counting the galaxy as the material plane and other planes still exist for the sake of extra-planar patrons, genasi, etc.

Max Hamburg

The ORPHEUS Protocol

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 1
World Scale: 4

Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Difficulty

Max’s Campaign Description

Be a part of a covert group that is aware of and defends against various supernatural horrors that lurk on the boundaries of our world. Draw on the supernatural yourself to aid in your fight but mind the inevitable cost of these abilities. Players will get some say in designing the group that their characters work for and the time period that this campaign will take place in.

Max’s Notes

Read the game rules before session 1. I can aid in your understanding of the system, but I would rather not spend too much time explaining game mechanics.

Stephenie Thorne

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: Yes

Silliness Index: 4

Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Light-Hearted
  • Silly
  • Bad Puns

Stephenie’s Campaign Description

Accidentally came to the strange planet Tronsogard through a portal? Can’t afford a portal back? Earn the money you need to go home in no time with Questr, the number one adventuring gig finder in Tronsogard. There are so many great ways to earn money with Questr, such as delivering pizza to goliaths living on the moon, finding lost rings in dungeons, hunting intellect devourers aboard a Questr-provided helm, and picking mushrooms in beautiful “bibberbang” fields. Sign up now and earn while you explore different worlds!
Questr is not responsible for any damages incurred during gigs including, but not limited to: broken or lost weapons and/or property, permanent burns, mental trauma from hags, loss of blood, curses, death, lost memories, ceremorphosis, and/or lost limbs or friends.

Stephenie’s Notes

This campaign is a way to dip your toes into the odd setting of Spelljammer! It takes place in the “sphere” or world of the Astromundi Cluster from D&D 2e with some modifications. Early on you’ll likely spend your days on the planet Tronsogard, but as the campaign progresses there’s a chance you might take a trip throughout space on a “spelljammer”, D&D’s wacky fantasy version of a spaceship! You can also pick an official D&D setting for your character to be from before they are inevitably warped into Astromundi! Want to be from Eberron? Prefer to keep it classic and come from the Forgotten Realms? Or go old school and come from Greyhawk? As long as it’s an official D&D setting, your character can be from there!

Zach’s Campaign Description

Scores of adventurers were recruited to explore Hot Springs Island, but fewer than one hundred have made it back in one piece. The ones savvy enough to stay alive have returned with bags of treasure and a whole bard’s worth of stories each. They spoke of steaming jungles filled with magical plants, lost ruins, ravenous creatures, and vengeful, feuding factions. We compiled their firsthand accounts, polished them off with a bit of wild assumption, and wrote it all down in this book—A Field Guide to Hot Springs Island. Good luck exploring the island!
