Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Online

NEW: Fall Quarter 2023 at DU will be in-person. This section will tell you whether or not the campaign will meet online. It will be listed under the Game System, Edition, & Stats section of the campaign descriptions.

If the online section says, “I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!,” this campaign will run in-person unless it shifts back to online for the quarter.
If the online section says, “I’ll be GMing online!,” this campaign will run solely online.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, D&D has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

Jackson’s Campaign Description

Welcome to Eritus, the Torn Coast. Rumors of a coming evil spread across the Rift, dividing the four kingdoms even further than the fiery fault that separates them. The war-bound gods of the four civilizations split the continent long ago so that each’s religion would not overtake the others. After all, a god is only as strong as his believers. And yet, unrest is spreading. A prophecy has echoed beyond the Rift— that the Tyrant of Sakhar will rise and devour the four kingdoms once and for all. Will the desert consume all? What roles will the other three kingdoms play? Join us to explore and find out.

Jackson’s Notes

Different traits will be welcome—and unwelcome— in different parts of this world. I’m not opposed to any race or class, as unexpected situations and interactions are usually hilarious and fun. However, if you choose a monstrous race or to be a particular type of warlock that doesn’t align with the general tenants of morality, expect to be treated accordingly by NPCs. Prejudice will play a role. You are interacting with isolated cultures, so if that is upsetting/uncomfortable to you, please don’t join because that’s the last thing I want!

  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • High Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • Gameplay Focus-High

Wesley’s Campaign Description

Ever watched the show Warehouse 13? If not, that’s okay! Fan of the show or no, you’ll find no difficulty jumping into a fantasy re-skinning of the sci-fi detective show. As agents for this Warehouse, you’ve been recruited to locate and secure potentially dangerous magical artifacts to store in the Warehouse for neutralization. Due to the nature of the magical objects you procure, the Warehouse itself can be a magically unstable and highly entropic environment. Can you resist the temptation to use these artifacts and complete your mission, saving non-magical folk from their influence? Can you thwart those who would misuse these artifacts for their own personal gain? (Chaotic, neutral, or lawful good only)

Wesley’s Notes

Must play some good alignment, as you’re being recruited by the agency for the public good.

Brian Mcculloch

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Something will occur
  • 69 page world building document (nice)

Brian’s Campaign Description

Look, I’m going to be honest, fall quarter doesn’t exist. I have no shred of an idea about what I’m going to run. It could be a political sandbox, it could be a campaign about ecology, it could be a plane-hopping adventure. Maybe I’m right and fall quarter isn’t real and can’t hurt us. All I know is that my worldbuilding document is 69 pages and I’m afraid to add to it, lest it increase in length and is no longer the funny number. That’s so many additional numbers to get to the next funny number. Join if you want to play D&D and boy howdy, I’ll run D&D for you.

Brian’s Notes

I’m not like other girls (read: just like), I have too many preconceived notions about how the way my D&D world works. I’ve got a ton of homebrew rules I’ll pitch to you, as well as a safety tools document we’ll be using. We will be having a session zero to sort out all of that nonsense.

Haley Huber

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Open World

Haley’s Campaign Description

Arctica. A place of eternal winter. Despite the cold and harsh weather, the people of Arctica have adapted and survived. Magic is outlawed and persecuted by the religious authorities The Brotherhood of Eternal Saints. Magic is allowed only under special circumstances, such as training to be a priest or cleric for the God, Cypher. Recently, the capital has been in disarray due to the recent murder of the guard captain.

Haley’s Notes

Magic users can be made, but please run by your character with me so we can figure out how to place you in the lore. This is a serious campaign, and I am also open to any homebrew ideas you have!

Amanda LeMoine

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’m happy to DM in-person.

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Open World
  • Horror

Amanda’s Campaign Description

Something is evolving in the Llynwood forest. For over a decade, the towns and communities that make up this isolated region have been quietly living their lives under the guidance of the adventurers that liberated it last. Perhaps too quietly, in hindsight. Now, whispers have begun to grow at the borders of the forest, of towns that have been transformed or disappeared altogether, of creeping madness and mutation that consumes the region, perhaps in need of intervention again.

Amanda’s Notes

A few notes for players! First, this campaign will have a lot of horror themes- including slight psychological and body horror. If this isn’t something you can stomach, you might want to steer clear of this campaign. Additionally, while there are cases where violence is justified in the story, try to avoid “murder-hoboing” or excessive PVP. Finally, I would be more than happy to work player backstories into the campaign, but they aren’t required.

Amelia Weiner

Likelihood of Running

Amelia’s Campaign Description

You are a Lancer, an exceptional mech pilot among already exceptional peers, and you live in a time where the future hangs as a spinning coin at the apex of its toss – the fall is coming and how the coin lands is yet to be determined. Alternatively, we may play another sci-fi RPG like Worlds Without Number or maybe even DnD 5e! Just know, it’ll be set in a science fiction setting.
