Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Online

NEW: Fall Quarter 2021 at DU will be mostly in-person. Some campaigns will be meeting online. This section will tell you whether or not the campaign will meet online. It will be listed under the Game System, Edition, & Stats section of the campaign descriptions.

If the online section says, “I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!,” this campaign will run in-person unless it shifts back to online for the quarter.
If the online section says, “I’ll be GMing online!,” this campaign will run solely online.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, D&D has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

Andrew Neel

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Cosmic Horror
  • Exploration-Heavy

Andrew’s Campaign Description

“Where am I? How did I get here?” These are the first things you ask yourself as you wake up in the shattered remains of a fluid filled tube. The answer to your first question comes soon enough: an alien nightmare world full of Mind Flayers and other aberrations. Will you be able to escape this hostile place or will its denizens consume you first?

Andrew’s Notes

No UA or Homebrew. Your characters will start with at least partial amnesia. This campaign will feature some cosmic horror themes. If this is something you are uncomfortable with, we can talk about it before the campaign starts so I can adjust the campaign (IDK how scary the campaign will actually be yet). I’ll be sending out more detailed character creation notes closer to the start of the campaign. If you have any other questions you can message me on discord @pietiki#3511

Ashton Foster

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Mutants and Masterminds
3rd Edition

Online: I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate

Ashton’s Campaign Description

Ten years ago, a massive earthquake launched tiny particles of an undiscovered element into the atmosphere. These particles spread across the earth and contaminated most living creatures. Scientists studying the material called it Luminium, due to its luminescent properties. It was quickly discovered that Luminium could be used to develop many advanced technologies. In rare circumstances, Luminium in living organisms would react wildly, mutating the organism, and granting them superpowers.

Ashton’s Notes

You may build whatever superhero you want, they can be a mutant, or you could also play as someone who uses technology. I am even willing to allow magic, or half-alien descendants (no Superman but you can be the son of Superman). However, my one requirement will be that somehow, your powers are tied to Luminium. Your character does not have to be aware of their ties, but their ties must at least be in their backstory. For example, maybe your alien parent came to earth to study Luminium.

I will require a backstory for your character with a minimum of one page. The campaign will not be built entirely around your backstories, however I will work to integrate each player into the story. For example, maybe your alien parent, while studying Luminium, was implicated in a conspiracy and disappeared.
I also ask that you remember, this is a table top role playing game, you are not the star of the show. Please try to not write characters who prefer flying solo.

If you have a cool idea, we can try to make it work. If we can build it in the system you can have it, but no time travel.

Audrey Bacon

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM, but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’ll be GMing online!

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 2

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Combat-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • High Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World

Audrey’s Campaign Description

In a “Monster of the Week” type campaign, each week you and your party will have to figure out first, what the strange object or creature is, and how to contain it to maintain normalcy for everyday people. Some will involve horrifying monsters or deadly diseases while others might simply be A Normal Ikea. A system based on D&D 5e with some homebrew elements that will require both puzzle-solving and brute force with a little bit of horror and office politics.

Audrey’s Notes

We’ll have a session 0 to establish some of the unique rules used for this campaign and the basics of the setting and how it will proceed.
No prior knowledge of the SCP Universe is required.

Chelsie Fincher

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Dungeons & Dragons

  • Low Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Humorous
  • Expect Chaos
  • Fun-Focused

Chelsie’s Campaign Description

Since the dawn of the Amethyst Empire, necromantic research has been outlawed. Yawn. Boring.
But no longer! Through a serendipitous political mishap, low-level necromancy has just been legalized. Now, the Skelesmith Society can step out from the shadows and offer its magical expertise for profit. Finally, you and your secret society can finance endeavors to save lives and safely explore the Astral Plane not to mention conquer the Empire with legions of the undead.
Just, you know, watch out for those pesky adventurer-types that seek to foil your schemes.

Chelsie’s Notes

  • Characters must have the ability to cast at least two necromancy spells, or have an undead flavor to their class and/or race (e.g. Ancestral Guardian barbarian or Reborn race).
  • No mystics.
  • No flying races. Races that can fly for short periods of time, like protector aasimar and gem dragonborn, are allowed. No “Mark of…” subraces. Yuan-ti purebloods are fine, but they will have to be nerfed.
  • Besides what I previously stated, UA content is allowed and encouraged.
  • No Ravnica backgrounds.
  • No Diplomat feat.
  • Content from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is allowed, but please let me know if you are using the optional class features.
  • PvP allowed!
  • Evil-aligned characters are allowed, but please let me know in advance if that is your plan.
  • If you have any other questions, you can reach out to me on Discord @gregorygrimaldis#8390

Dillon Dugan

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
3.5 or 5th Edition (up to the players)

Online: I’ll be GMing online!

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 2
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Open World

Dillon’s Campaign Description

Centuries ago, tales told of a mystical land blessed by powerful beings of the Feywild, a place where the races lived together under harmony and prosperity. Some believe this land to be nothing more than a warm, fuzzy bedtime story; others believe that through oral tradition this civilization was passed from generation to generation. However, not any explorer, adventurer, nor historian can place where such a land would be located, if it does exist.

One fateful evening, you recieve a vision or dream of this Haven. Feeling warm and comforted by your childhood story, you continue to let your imagination run off with this untouchable land. That is, until you hear an unfamiliar voice reaching out to you…

Dillon’s Notes

There is an alternative campaign prompt if the party decides to play as an evil group.

This is a modified version of the Palace of the Silver Princess. This classic D&D module contains a story of good versus evil.

This game is going to be slightly homebrewed. Palace of the Silver Princess is traditionally an AD&D module and thus needs to be modified to fit the newer edition. I will allow some homebrew content from players, pending my approval.

I tend to try to stick to the rules of the game out of fairness, however I am not a stickler to rules and can modify things as we see fit.

If the party wants combat after combat, I can add it in. If party wants lots of RP opportunities, I’ll do it. I make my campaign around my players’ wants.

Isla Lader

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Online: I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • “Yes And”

Isla’s Campaign Description

The continent of Wildemount is a powder keg about to explode. Tensions between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty are rising as these two imperial superpowers move towards open conflict using science, magic, and even divine intervention. This is a backstory-based campaign. I will build the entire campaign over summer break using your characters’ backstories. There is a THREE-page MINIMUM length for backstories. Backstories are due to me by July 9th. The campaign’s locations and pantheon will be based on Exandria. For information and inspiration, I recommend the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, Chapters One and Two, as well as Chapter Four’s subclass, background, and character options. This book is available on the club D&D Beyond account. Please email the exec board for access to D&D Beyond.

Isla’s Notes

Player characters start at level nine. The Lucky feat is banned. No aarakocra. No murder hobos. No neutral nor chaotic evil alignments.
PVP is allowed, but please don’t be a jerk. Try to reserve it for narrative choices.
If you want to play an exotic PC race or class (like those from Eberron or Ravnica), ask permission, and we can work on it. Same for UA; simply ask me, and we can figure something out. Since this is a backstory-based campaign, I want to work with you and will most likely approve your ideas.

Joey’s Campaign Description

You and your party set out to search for the legendary vessel, but your ship is wrecked in a terrible storm. You awaken to see the bow of The Daydreamer right in front of you. To escape the Daydreamer, you must descend down into The Beast, navigate the ruins of the ancient kingdom inside, and hope that you can find a way to free yourselves.

Joey’s Notes

Disclaimer: This is not an ocean campaign. Very little of this campaign will take place on a boat. Instead, you’ll be exploring an ancient kingdom.

The Expanse RPG

Online: I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Cinematic
  • Backstory-driven
  • Skills-driven

June’s Campaign Description

(This description contains spoilers for S2E15 of The Expanse and the book Leviathan Wakes)

With the destruction of Eros Station and the crashing of the protomolecule on Venus, everything changed. The UN and Mars Congressional Republic are on the brink of war. Both scramble for resources to outgun the opposition. In this new arms race, one element reigns supreme: iridium. Prized for its extreme hardness and high melting point, iridium is scarce and vital to the construction of powerful weapons.
You and your crewmates are travelling to 16 Psyche, an iridium-rich asteroid. Its UN mining outpost looks to be the next flashpoint in the escalating conflict.

June’s Notes

Wherever possible, this campaign will adhere to real-life physics, computer science, chemistry, and mechanics.
This campaign takes place after the events of S2E15 of The Expanse.
Previous knowledge of the setting and system is not required.
If you have questions about the system or campaign, ask me! I tend to be a lenient GM, and I’m happy to let my players tinker with system mechanics or their backstory until they are content.

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition (homebrew)

Online: I’d like to GM in-person if we can, but online is okay!

Silliness Index: 4
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2

Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World

Marcus’s Campaign Description

Earth #1527 is a world much like our own. The main difference is that it has a cavalcade of superpowered weirdos that think it’s cool to put on spandex and punch aliens or whatever. You are a group of such weirdos. As junior members of the SOCIETY OF HOPE, a world-renowned superhero group, it falls to you to take care of minor threats facing PLATINUM CITY. Pretty boring stuff most days. It kind of makes you wish something more exciting would happen… doesn’t it?

Marcus’s Notes

I’ll be using a handful of homebrew rules. You’re welcome to use them. Otherwise, use whatever character race and class you’d like. So long your character ends up in a modern, urban setting and is somewhat superhero-themed, go nuts.
As a side note, don’t expect this campaign to be anything like “The Boys” or other grimdark superhero stories. I genuinely like the optimism of most comics. The campaign’s story and tone will be lighthearted.

Expected Duration: 2 Quarters

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy

Max’s Campaign Description

Step into a magical world on the verge of an industrial revolution. One where all myths hold a grain of truth. Perhaps you might choose to stay in the city, where noble houses reign supreme, and join the members of your family in navigating the lying and backstabbing involved in gaining political power. Or maybe you’d rather be a commoner, navigating the city and the lands beyond in an attempt to pursue your own goals. The choice is yours. We’ll be playing a new system that I’m currently building, so be prepared for balance changes as the campaign progresses.

Max’s Notes

This system is still in development, so you should expect it to change over the course of the campaign.

  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Scene-Style Narration
  • Mystery
  • Time Travel
  • Complex World Mechanics but Simple System
  • Setting Treated as a Character
  • Time as a Game Mechanic

Miles’ Campaign Description

“You stand, shielding your eyes from the sun, in a field of rolling green grass. The air is crisp and clean, and a breeze buffets your clothes as you clutch onto them to protect from the chill. Your party member, at the same minute and at the same spot, stands in the center of a busy shopping complex 2000 years later. The magnetic train screams as it passes overhead, and they have to shuffle and duck out of the way of a crowd of passersby.”

Explore and solve a mystery that spans centuries as you and your fellow party members exist in the same place at vastly different times, with communication amongst yourselves. The campaign will be heavily narrative and character based, with the expectation to engage in depth with the world around you in new and creative ways.

Miles’ Notes

Each character will live in the same location, but set over different time periods (think centuries). The party will be solving a mystery by working together to examine how it impacts their world versus others’ and collaboratively putting the pieces together. Actions taken in the past directly affect the future in a tangible way.

There will be a session 0 to establish your characters and build their time periods and settings. I as a GM love to build settings and plots that actively react to the characters and your choices. I also love taking new and unique spins on mysteries and play-styles that I haven’t seen before. I often focus on weird uses of time and forcing players to actively interact with the environment around them.

Since the party will technically be perpetually split, I’m going to introduce several mechanics for communication and interaction with each other, but be ready to work with me to figure out how to balance narration between players while keeping it engaging. Every scene will have clues to pay attention to, and I’m aiming for this to be the kind of mystery you want to keep detailed notes on.

Stephenie’s Campaign Description

Two days ago, the town of Flora was burned to ashes by a warring country seeking a powerful gem. All that remains is Green Ables, your retirement home. You’re not sure what the surviving mayor saw in you–maybe it was because you adventured long ago, or it was your merchant skills. Maybe, just maybe, it’s the fact that you’re able to bake a pastry that could cure anyone’s bad day. Regardless, you and a group of fellow retirees have been tasked with delivering the gem that the attacking army failed to find in the Kingdom of Sola. The journey will be long and perilous, but it’s the only way to ensure the gem doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. It’s up to you to save the world from destruction, back problems be damned.

Stephenie’s Notes

Explore Ryuutama, a Japanese RPG that focuses on playing characters you might typically pass by in other games like merchants, cooks, and the like. It’s a fun little RPG with a focus on travel and exploration!

Dungeons & Dragons

Online: I’ll be GMing online!

Silliness Index: 2
World Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Combat-Medium
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • High Difficulty

Tyler’s Campaign Description

When you were walking through the forest on your way to Neverwinter, you weren’t expecting a thick fog to manifest in the middle of the summer, and you certainly weren’t expecting to come out of it in a completely different realm. To make things worse, a beloved member of your party is missing! Of course, he had most of the money. Will you be able to find your friend/ally/co-worker before it’s too late, or will one of the many dangers of the demi-plane, Darkon, get to you first?

Tyler’s Notes

This will be a horror campaign (though I’ll inevitably slip and make jokes).

The missing party member is Neremyn Naefaren, a half-elf sorcerer. He can be a bit stiff sometimes, due to his mother being nobility. He was kind of the leader of the party, but we can determine the exact dynamic later.

We’ll be starting at level 5. For stats, roll 3d6 each. You can have standard starting equipment. I’ll probably be using mechanics to make things more serious, but I haven’t decided which ones yet.

I’m relatively new to DMing, so expect me to make some mistakes. Also, I’d like to have a session zero so we can discuss your characters and the party dynamic, since you’ve all known each other for some time now.
