Here you’ll find info on the upcoming campaigns for Fall Quarter 2020.
Fill out the Player Sign-Up Form by Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11:59pm.

NEW: Given recent events, there is the potential that Fall Quarter 2020 at DU will be online. If that is the case, some campaigns will not be able to meet. This section will tell you whether or not the campaign will meet online should the need arise. It will be listed under the Likelihood of Running section of the campaign descriptions.

If the online section says, “No,” this campaign will not run if DU shifts to online learning for the quarter.
If the online section says, “Yes,” this campaign will run if DU shifts to online learning for the quarter.

Key

New Campaigns are at the top and any Continuing Campaigns will be at the bottom of the list.

Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (DND), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, DND has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Note: continuing campaigns do not meet in the fall. A continuing campaign can only happen in winter or spring to ensure that freshman get a chance to meet DUDADers.

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 4

Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Mortality Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World

Joe’s Campaign Description

In the world of Sator, tensions are high between the 12 nations and a world war is more than likely. However, in this world, the most independent continent of Aberon, a mysterious nation that is styled after ancient Greece, holds an international Olympics with the outside nations to promote glory and unity. This is your first time entering the Aberonian Olympics and you will be a person who acts with the ambassador of your nation. However a great shadow is cast upon the event and a sinister group of people attack you, the people of Aberon, and steal your nation’s leaders. To prevent a war amongst your nations and to save your allies, you must travel through this land and uncover its secrets and lore.

Joe’s Notes

Try to determine your character’s Race, Class, and Background before our first session. Your character will start at level 3, your character will level up often. I would prefer it if you could have your character come from a nation different from the rest of your party. For clerics, you can not have your divinity of a chaotic origin. You can use divinities that come from Basic Rules. You can also come up with your own God or Goddess and I’ll implement them in my campaign.

For Fiendish Patron Warlocks and Tieflings, you can craft your own Fiendish patron/parent, just don’t make them have a position as high as the ruler of hell. Your nations are in styles similar to the 16th – 18th centuries. Try to keep your backgrounds as pro-establishment as you can. No sky based vehicles; they do exist but are not commercially used.

Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low mortality-Rate

Alex’s Campaign Description

Rumors of a white dragon have shaken the natural goings-on of the town of Phandalin and the surrounding countryside. The supply of butterskulls from Butterskull Ranch has been cut off, the gnome kings haven’t left their keep in days, and oddly intelligent boars have been attacking rural settlements. Pick up jobs and explore the Sword Coast’s frontier in this open world adventure.

Alex’s Notes

We’ll have a session 0 to set up characters, but try to come in with an idea of what you might want to be, I’d love to play a little during the first session as well. Run UA by me, and feel free to ask me questions at w.niedy@gmail.com
This campaign is aimed at educating new folks on the core rules, but anyone who’s willing to assist in educating new folks or wants a refresher on how the game rolls (or just on how published adventures feel to play) is welcome.

Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Combat-Medium

Mary’s Campaign Description

In a fantasy setting, your party members are finding ways to cure curses, infernal infections, and broken hearts. But what happens when a mysterious new disease spreads through the land with no known cure?

Mary’s Notes

Because this is a hospital drama, all characters must have healing capabilities. Multiclassing is encouraged.

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 1
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium

Corwyn’s Campaign Description

The world of Amber is in its first stages of an arcane-industrial revolution, but the average citizen is still concerned with the trials of the medieval state. Luckily for them, the past 50 years have seen the rise of the Sleek & Random Adventurers’ Guild, an international organization that connects talented adventurers to those in need. You have just passed the interview process to join the guild, and now arrive at the guild headquarters for your trial period.

Corwyn’s Notes

The questing nature of this campaign provides opportunities for players to decide levels of combat, intrigue, or exploration depending on what quests they take.
Most official races will be fine, but more obscure ones will need to be run by me. As an early arcane-industrial society, gunslingers and artificers are allowed. The pantheon is entirely homebrewed, so religiously inclined characters will need to speak with me.
On the cosmic scale, the distinction between law and chaos is more important than good vs evil. You have to make a convincing case if you want an evil character. PvP is not allowed.

Feast of Legends

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Linear World

Lucas’ Campaign Description

You are adventurers in the realm of Beef’s Keep, where the nations have been splintered over major disagreements in how to treat the realm’s people. Creepingvale and the United Clown Nation have led their people into a collective darkness known as The Deep Freeze. While the world currently feels like a cold and desolate place, you reside in the one nation that remains a true beacon of hope: Freshtovia.

Lucas’ Notes

This is the official Wendy’s RPG (yes, the fast food chain). If you look at the pdf beforehand, please don’t look past page 33 (that’s where the players’ part ends). I plan to have a 1-on-1 session with each player before the first session to introduce them to the world and help them build a character.

This is quite the task in the city of Kata, where gangs, cults, and a dark criminal conspiracy have taken root. You have been chosen to assist in the peacekeeping efforts, small and large. This is a modern high fantasy setting.

Chyna and Chelsie’s Notes

Modern high fantasy setting. No PvP. No aarakocra or mystics. We are co-DMing; prepare for trouble, make it double. Stay safe, stay warm ❤

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition with some Homebrew

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World

Allison’s Campaign Description

The desert land of Sin-Khar has been plagued by a centuries-old crusade. The endless holy war has brought glory and riches to some, but desolation and death to far more. The Khalmoni tribe has so far avoided conflict in their mountain homes, but now, under threat of invasion by a corrupt holy order, they are searching for any aid they can get. You have been recruited to explore the ancient ruins of humanity’s first temple, which houses a legendary weapon once wielded by the Gods themselves.

Allison’s Notes

I’ll send y’all some background info beforehand through email, and I would like to have a session zero with each player, even if it doesn’t end up being in person. You will be starting at level 6, and I plan on having you level up quite a bit, so prepare for higher-level play by the end of the campaign! In terms of characters, any primary published material will be fine, as long as you have a good backstory for it! Material from secondary worlds (like Eberron or Ravnica) and other stuff like UA and homebrew will have to be run by me first, but there’s a good chance I’ll say yes (as long as they’re not psionics). 🙂

  • Low Mortality Rate

  • Backstory Incorporated

Isla’s Campaign Description

The city of Carrowmore faces a flood of apocalyptic proportions after the ancient dam collapses. Mutated flora and fauna leak into the city, and the population is beset by horrors and wonders from beyond. Word spreads, gathering the brave and the foolish to traverse the land beyond and into the valley of The Deep Carbon Observatory. A low combat campaign with a high focus on exploration, role-play, and world building.

Isla’s Campaign Description

No aarakocra.
No lucky feat.
No murder hobo.
No chaotic evil alignment
PVP allowed, but please don’t be a jerk and try to reserve it for narrative choices.
If you want to use an exotic PC race or class (like from Eberron, Ravnica, or Wildemount) you just have to ask permission. Same for UA; simply ask me and we can figure something out.

Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World

Marcus’ Campaign Description

Magic returned to Earth on July 1st, 2020. Monsters roam, enchanted items are abundant, and the world has been permanently altered. This is most true in the heart of the American Great Plains where thrill seekers armed with enchanted swords, wizard staffs, and talking shotguns ride down Interstate 25 in their pickup trucks looking for adventure.
You are a student of the University of Denver in the year 2024. The DUST (Denver University Scavenger Team) has put out a call for students brave enough to go fight monsters with the promise of status, power, and wealth beyond their wildest dreams – if they somehow survive. If you can roll with the DUST, you may just defeat the greatest monster of all: student loans!

Marcus’ Notes

This is my first time running the Monster of the Week system, so if you sign up for this game I ask that you be willing to bear with me as we will be learning this new system together.

  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • High Mortality-Rate
  • Open World
  • Linear World

Marcus’ Campaign Description

In the dark land of Herdmortal, a council of elder vampires plots to declare war on the races of the living. One dissident of the council, Count Hurtfield, has secretly summoned a band of powerful adventurers to oppose the council’s actions. As the party you must defeat or subdue the remaining 5 council members in order to stop the potential onslaught of fanged fury on the neighboring lands.

Marcus’ Notes

This will be a 12th level campaign, so come prepared! The more backstory you give me the more interesting the world is, so go nuts. You may also notice that it is both a linear and open world, that’s because I’m keeping to the influence of Castlevania and making a kind of hub-based world with different areas that don’t have a fixed order.

Ryan’s Campaign Description

Most folk enjoy the comforts and benefits of a society on the brink of industrialization, but the fair folk have no shortage of grievances. These chaotic-natured denizens of the Faewild look far less kindly towards this encroachment on the natural order. They see it as the domination of an environment that does not want to be tamed. In turn, they’ve set to work on a ritual to tear apart the very core of civilization. You, having just woken up in the heart of the Faewild, are all that stands between life as we know it and a chaotic hellscape devoid of structure and laws.

Ryan’s Notes

I’ll be open to most if not all additional content (UA or otherwise) but you must clear it with me beforehand.

Cass’s Campaign Description

Centuries ago, a devil tyrant ruled a kingdom of mortals until he was defeated by a powerful sorcerer. On the three hundredth anniversary of the devil’s defeat, the sorcerer’s descendants have been gathered for a celebration. However, not all is as it seems. Great evil stirs and shadowy forces are moving to reclaim their lost power. Will the sorcerer’s descendants rise to meet this threat, or will darkness swallow the kingdom once more?

Cass’s Notes

Hi, y’all. Pretty much everything is fair game for character creation. That being said, please run your characters by me so we can make sure they fit the setting. We’ll be starting at level 1. I try to make sure everyone feels welcome at the table and to construct the setting & NPCs with inclusivity in mind.

Early Dark
1st Edition

Silliness Index: 2

Expected Duration: 3 Quarters

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty

Clinton’s Campaign Description

Your family and friends are refugees seeking shelter in the fledgling kingdom known as Kestra, far away from the sheer destruction your homeland faced. You suspect that the purges in your homeland eradicated anyone left alive, and the numbers in your party of traveling merchants have dwindled significantly as you make your way. The Faldelyn Empire has dislocated your people, and after months of roaming hungry, you’ve finally arrived to the neighboring capital city of Banredal. The fearsome and famous unicorn banner of the Iron Brigade flutters over the city. Tensions in Banredal reach an all-time high when a beloved philosopher is rumored to have been killed by soldiers, and it would appear as though riots now threaten the only stable place that you’ve found…

Clinton’s Notes

Earlydark is a difficult system to learn, but it’s significantly more dynamic than D&D. There are no races, classes, and the rules you’re used to have changed drastically to reflect a low-fantasy approach. Your XP is earned by completing milestones, and your alignment is to close personal bonds.

My campaign is not for the weak of heart. All aspects of the human condition are in play, and there is a strong emphasis in being plot-driven. This is not Skyrim, but rather, a story.
