Full Info, Winter 2020

Here you’ll find info on the upcoming campaigns for Fall Quarter 2019.
Fill out the Player Sign-Up Form by Saturday, November 16 at 11:59pm.

Key

New Campaigns are at the top and any Continuing Campaigns will be at the bottom of the list.

Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (DND), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, DND has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Note: continuing campaigns do not meet in the fall. A continuing campaign can only happen in winter or spring to ensure that freshman get a chance to meet DUDADers.

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

New Campaigns

DM Cedar Haugen

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 5
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character Driven
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Suspense

Cedar’s Campaign Description

Waves crash against the hull of the ship that you have boarded as you sail through the Nevermist sea. You are one of the many passengers aboard the Sleeping Nymph, the fastest and most affordable way to traverse the labyrinth of coral reefs and lost isles of the Nevermist. TheNymph seems seaworthy and the crew is experienced, yet black clouds have begun to form on the horizon, foretelling a storm. Something powerful is stirring in the depths…
Good luck! Don’t die! Seriously, do your best not to die. Prepare for a high-fantasy horror campaign…

Cedar’s Notes

Character creation will be done over winter break! Failure to do so will result in severely restricted character creation. Players who create characters over break will receive custom magic items! Otherwise, I am open to pretty much anything for character creation, but you must run your character by me before we begin. I will send a character creation sheet via email so keep an eye out once players have been placed. I will also make a group chat for everyone so we can discuss player creation. It would be fun to connect backstories!

P.S. This is a high-fantasy horror campaign. Characters will die, though they can be revived (however, the bad guys could be the ones doing the reviving…). You will be making a character backstory and you are encouraged to be attached to your character. It will intensify the campaign and make deaths all the more meaningful so please do your best to make a good backstory. I apologize ahead of time if you die.

DM Lucas McLeod

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons and Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 3
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy

Lucas’ Campaign Description

The World is Yours! This is a backstory based campaign. I will build the entire campaign over winter break using your characters’ backstories. Expect a standard magic and monsters campaign. There is a 3 page MINIMUM length for backstories, sent to me by December 1st. Feel free to use locations from the Sword Coast or create your own and I’ll add them to the best of my ability. The pantheon used is Forgotten Realms and Racial Deities. For info on setting or gods, I recommend the Sword Coast Adventure Guide on the D&D Beyond (email the exec board for access). I will be less able to work in any backstory sent later than Dec 1.

Lucas’ Notes

Players start at level 8. No NE or CE. Lucky feat is banned. UA is banned until it gets formally released (or ask and I’ll probably rebalance it with you) (revised ranger is legal as is). I will make you calculate carrying capacity and weight. If you have any questions about rules or concepts, feel free to contact me using my DU email or by text.

Marcus’ Notes

You will begin at 5th level. Please send me a reason why you are at the sky trader convention.

DM Eli Depper

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4

Eli’s Campaign Description

Something strange is happening to the magic in the Kingdom of Tarotwent. Spells are misfiring. Enchanted objects occasionally have strange and dangerous effects. Casters are being held under greater and greater scrutiny. You will play as a covert group of casters based out of the Greyhawk Academy working against the wishes of the crown to attempt to determine what exactly is going wrong with the world.

Eli’s Notes

For this campaign you will need to be a caster class! If you want to use a homebrew or anything outside of the PHB for your race or class please send me an email before week 1. There is a high likelihood I’ll say yes but I don’t want to make a blanket statement.

Week 1 will be character creation and an introduction to the world and mechanics. Please come with an idea of your character pre-planned.

DM Alex “Bones” Niederberger

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 5
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Mystery-Focused
  • Small-Setting

Alex’s Campaign Description

The small town of Gladsden Glade’s peaceful lifestyle has been interrupted by several acts of sabotage, targeting construction projects on the recently opened campus of the Cappergast School of Illusion. Upset with the town guard’s slow investigation, especially concerning the recent disappearance of one of the construction workers, the school has hired you to lead a private inquiry into the strange events. Explore Gladsden Glade’s humble streets, solve a series of unfurling mysteries, and experience the surreal happenings of an isolated town.

Alex’s Notes

Feel free to ask questions (come up to me, or email w.niedy@gmail.com)! I’d like this to be a collaborative campaign. Please don’t join if you want a lot of player versus player and player versus DM elements.

Characters will start at level 1 and will most likely end at level 5. You will likely only have one character for the duration, so make it one you’re comfortable playing for a full quarter: try to have a strong defined personality, some sort of personal goal, and at least one significant event/person in your past (all of which can be very simple, it’s just so I can weave your characters into the campaign more). I’ll email about this a bit after placement is announced.

DM Kylie Dillinger

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 2

  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Linear World
  • Story-Driven

Kylie’s Campaign Description

You have been summoned to the town of Somna by the famed and well-renowned wizard Arolius to assist him and his two students in clearing out the spectres of a haunted stone fortress. Your job – protect the wizard and his acolytes while they uncover the origin of this haunting. Do not interfere in the work of the wizards, but get them out alive. Sounds easy, right? If only, if only…

Kylie’s Notes

Any classes outside of the basic 5e please run by me first, just so I know what’s up. I’ve got some fun homebrew items y’all can choose from to start with. Characters will be requested to submit some backstory stuff, but not an entire full-fledged thing if you don’t want to.

DM James Joseph

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Call of Cthulhu
7th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: Quarters

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Open World
  • Horror
  • Dark Humor
  • Investigation-Heavy

James’ Campaign Description

Denver, Colorado, 1929. The economy suffers from coal-mine closures, but the grand opening of Denver Municipal Airport brings hope that times will improve. One early February morning, the murdered body of 19-year-old Flora Mitchell is discovered on the shore of the Cherry Creek Reservoir, and the police are baffled. Your job: investigate the murder, uncover the conspiracy, and find the killer. But the more mysteries you solve, the more mysteries you uncover. Mysteries like endless threads, or perhaps tentacles, leading you to that mysterious airport and deep into a cosmic, ancient evil that has driven many an investigator…MAD.

James’ Notes

Call of Cthulhu 7e is a game that is not often played in DnD club, so I’ll start by teaching you the system. Character creation in CoC is much different, so I’ll have pre-made characters for those who want them. Finally, those of you who have played with me before are well aware that I love comedy in RPGs. However, with CoC being a horror-based game, I’m still not sure how much comedy will fit in, which is why the silliness index is so uncharacteristically low.

Chelsie and Merlin’s Notes

DM Kim Davis

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

DM Maggie McKenna

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeon World

Silliness Index: 4

Maggie’s Campaign Description

When you finally managed to make landfall, you discovered that something is very wrong. Though no one else really seemed to notice, time began to bend and warp. Join the adventure! Board your ship for island-hopping and time-hopping adventures as you try to figure out what the heck is going on.

Maggie’s Notes

Dungeon World is a game in the Powered by the Apocalypse system that’s about cooperative world building and playing to find out what happens, so all you’ll need is a couple of d6s and an interest in telling a fun story!

DM Kevin Kurtzman

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Homebrew

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Difficulty

Kevin’s Campaign Description

:::Mission Briefing:::
Hello operative,
Omnic construction center B-13 has gone dark.
Your job: get in, reactivate the facility, keep it quiet.
Remember, world leaders are meeting to expand Omnic production, and we can not let them know that the primary center for advanced Omnic programming is unresponsive. You will be with a team of handpicked recruits. We only have one shot, try not to fail would you?
-B.W.
:::End Transmission:::
The world could always use more heroes.

Kevin’s Notes

Because this is homebrew, a session 0 will be required for each player to build the characters and establish your place in this world. Rules will be sent to each player so you have them before their session 0.

DM Jordan Zink

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Star Wars Saga Edition

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Low Difficulty
  • Character-Focused

Jordan’s Campaign Description

After the battles between the Republic and the Separatists, the Empire emerges from the ashes of war. The galaxy is set in dark times, and any last vestiges of hope against the Imperial regime seem a far off dream. Far beyond the fringes of civilized space, the criminal underworld thrives, working both beneath and alongside the new order. As denizens of the Outer Rim struggle for survival, there are those who rise above such times and those that would embrace its bounties….

Jordan’s Notes

An individual session 0 is required before our 1st session. I will help you make your character, flesh out your backstory, choose your destiny, and play through/learn the Star Wars Saga Edition System.

Books will be provided, as well as additional tools to help you as a player.
You gain a level at the end of each session. Plan to be awesome.

This game is about your characters, and I will do my best to guide you in creating what you want, from alien species and class to what equipment I’d recommend. Go crazy and we’ll work to make it happen within the rules, and I might even bend 1 or 2 in favor of the *rule of cool*.

The campaign will be set in 13BBY, several years after Order 66. The Empire has taken control and the Rebellion is far from conception. As a party, you’ll have to choose to support the new order, vie for independent systems, or simply work for interested parties throughout the galaxy.

Obligatory NO EWOKS rant. Feel free to read if you’d like a kick out of it: You are not allowed to play an ewok. They are small teddy bears on a moon that is barely visited on the fringes of the galaxy. They are not space-faring creatures and are not in contact with civilization to get around that fact until way into the war between the Empire and the Rebellion. I DON’T CARE IF IT IS LISTED IN THE MAIN PLAYER’S HANDBOOK AS A RACE, DO NOT PLAY AN EWOK!

DM Marcus and Jordyn Merritt

Likelihood of Running

We plan to DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 5
World Scale: 5
Rule Adherence: 1
Commitment Level: 2
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Low Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Comedic focus
  • 100% improvisation

Marcus and Jordyn’s Campaign Description

Every Dungeon Master knows the pain of trying to plan and run a D&D session. Half the time, the players don’t even get to the actual content you prepared. You plan for A, B, and C, and the party chooses Orange Triangle Seven. At some point, every exasperated Dungeon Master asks themselves a question: Why bother planning at all? Why not leave every decision up to improvisation?

This campaign is the result of that question.

Marcus and Jordyn’s Notes

This game is just going to be one big, continual goof. Our goal is to create a silly and fun game atmosphere as a deviation from the standard format that D&D campaigns usually follow. Come prepared to improvise a lot and to have a fun time.

DM Robbie Corl

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

On Kadavo, a sadistic Zygerrian slave trader continues to elude the Jedi and run his violent, gladiator style slave trade, where word of rebellion has begun to spread…

Robbie’s Notes

A session 0 is required before our first official meeting, where we will make your character, flesh out your backstory, choose your destiny, and play through/learn the Star Wars Saga Edition System.

Do you like Keanu Reeves? Are you excited for Cyberpunk 2077? Do you want to rebel against unjust technocracies? Are you just really into fancy cybernetic technology? Then this may be the campaign for you! Rather than running the standard D&D 5e ruleset this will be an entirely different handbook which was used to inspire the upcoming video game! Join other players as you try to get by, get forward, and get ahead in an ever-developing cyberpunk dystopia.

Ryan’s Notes

This campaign will have a different direction and rulebook than standard D&D 5e. I’ll be patient and work with you, though I ask that players at least skim the rule book over winter break. (Link to rulebook)

If a rule in the book is “un-fun” I am open to discussing cutting it.

Will you venture into enemy territory with your companions only to fail in humiliation? Or will you achieve success and glory?

Clint’s Notes

Engage in a challenging, dynamic new system, in a story driven immersive RPG. Explore the human condition in a low fantasy setting.
My campaigns are not for the light-hearted. Every dark despicable aspect of the human condition will more than likely be explored. I do not recommend this campaign if you might be an individual who doesn’t cope with anxiety well.
