Full Info, Fall 2019

Here you’ll find info on the upcoming campaigns for Fall Quarter 2019.

Key

(FULL) means full to max.

** means full to preferred, so you’ll only get in if every other campaign fills up first.

Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (DND), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, DND has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Note: continuing campaigns do not meet in the fall. A continuing campaign can only happen in winter or spring to ensure that freshman get a chance to meet DUDADers.

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

DM Marcus Merritt

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 5
Scale: 5
Rule Adherence: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Moderate/High Game Commitment

Marcus’ Campaign Description

Limbo: a place ruled by neither Death nor Time. All lost things will find their way here: perhaps your favorite pair of socks, the coins between your couch cushion… or even forgotten souls. The dead that are unable to find peace in their eternal rest, unable to continue on to a proper afterlife, gather in Limbo to wait until the end of the universe envelops all.

Among the souls of Limbo, a legend is told. A grim fortress was lost to the world in the fog of a terrible war. Every inch of the rubble was overturned, but there was not a trace of the artifact of unspeakable power this place once protected: A weapon that can kill the past. Some who hear the legend would give anything for another shot, to claim this lost artifact and make what was done, undone…

Marcus’ Notes

I will be working with players over the summer break to help create characters and will be having a one-on-one Session Zero with each player before the first meeting of Fall Quarter. Due to the nature of this setting, we will have to be working together to determine how your character died and made it to Limbo. Because I plan for this game to be very heavily character driven, I will be requiring that my players be committed and cooperative with me and the other players at the table. Due to this, I will likely not allow Evil characters. I know this sounds like a lot to ask for, but I promise to make it as easy and fun for you as possible.

I also have some homebrew I’ve written (mostly races) that is optional for players to use.

If you want clarification on anything before you sign up, I encourage you to text me at 808-265-9302 or email me at Marcus.Merritt@du.edu and I will happily answer any questions.

You’re all playing humans, with no such thing as classes. Expect things to be complicated at first.

Something else is coming to Metru Nui, a Darkness the likes of which the city has never seen…

DM James Joseph

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 5
Scale: 5
Rule Adherence: 2
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Low Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Silly
  • Laid-Back
  • Humorous

James’ Campaign Description

Knock knock. Who’s there? ADVENTURE THAT’S WHO!
Of course, it’s common knowledge that the dread Unicorn Lords and their evil army were banished to Fairyland with the help of the Furry Folk one thousand years ago. Everyone knows that. What you might not know is that, after so long, the Unicorn Lords are coming back to end the First World as we know it! Only you can stop them now! It’s up to you to cross forbidden borders, travel to dangerous lands, acquire all of the macguffins, learn heartfelt lessons about friendship, and beat evil at its own game! Adventure is knocking! Why don’t you invite it inside for tea!

James’ Notes

This campaign is great for people who are beginners with DnD (although veterans are more than welcome)! I like to play with a rather loose grasp of the rules, so don’t worry if you don’t know them well either. This campaign will be very silly. If I could have, I would have put the silliness at 6, but it only goes to 5. There will also be a few homebrew races I’ll offer you to play, and we’ll spend the first day making characters!

DM Jordyn Merritt

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 4
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • High Homebrew
  • High Magic

Jordyn’s Campaign Description

The Demiplane of Chaos is a prison full of ancient Powers, unknowable monsters, and you! The ancient chaos goddess Erris has plucked you from your world and dropped you into hers. If you hope to find the exit and survive the experience, you will need to band together with your fellow prisoners. Face horrible foes and conquer confusing capers with the powers of friendship and copious amounts of violence.

Jordyn’s Notes

The first meeting will be a session 0 for explaining the setting and character creation. Please have a general concept in mind. If you want to play an evil character, speak with me first! All official races and classes are likely approved as long as they are not Unearthed Arcana.

DM Audrey Bacon

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 5
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 1
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Combat-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Mortality-Rate
  • Low Difficulty
  • Linear World

Audrey’s Campaign Description

Sound is vanishing and it’s all starting with music. In desperation the people of the world have summoned the muses, you. Each genre of music has manifested itself to protect sound and revive music in the land. You must make your way to where the sound is being hoarded, while eliminating as many of the Silencing’s Minions as possible. A JRPG based campaign with random encounters and singing. Each character is centered around a genre of music so this is a campaign well suited for people with a tendency for the theatrical, as singing is encouraged and musical knowledge is a must!

Audrey’s Notes

The key piece of gameplay for this campaign is the random encounters with minor enemies. However, every action should be accompanied with a lyric or two with a song from your chosen genre. First come first serve in terms of genre i.e. if someone asks to be classic rock that genre is effectively “taken” and try to keep your choice in mind when creating a character.

DM Jackson Hunter

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition with How to Train Your Dragon Homebrew

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 2
Rule Adherence: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality-Rate

Jackson’s Campaign Description

It’s been one year since Hiccup and the Riders of Berk defeated the Red Death. This took a great toll on them, and all of the Riders but Hiccup and his Night Fury, Toothless, perished in the process. Hiccup blamed himself for their deaths. He took Toothless and disappeared, and has not been seen since. Stoick has come to you lucky few to ask you to find them.

Jackson’s Notes

Since this campaign is set in the How To Train Your Dragon world, players will be human non-spellcasters. Want to try a non-spellcaster ranger where the spells are instead on the tips of arrows? We can make it work. Want to try to play someone more profienct in medicine? We can make it work.

Wonderland used to be a land of dreamy fascination, but now it is a world of nightmares. While Wonderland is still full of curiosities, it has become a dangerous place that makes one question what reality really is. Will you save Wonderland, or will you throw it further into darkness?

Kat’s Notes

  • For character creation: anything can happen in Wonderland, and you can be any race you can find or think of – just not any of the original Wonderland characters (e.g., Cheshire, Hatter) and obvs can’t be too overpowered
  • Will start characters at level 5
  • Please make a backstory for your character
  • You do not have to have your character created by the time of the first session, though it is encouraged that you begin thinking of ideas for one beforehand.
  • No PVP

Blown way off course, floating aimlessly on the sea with no clue as to your whereabouts, you get the grim feeling that these may be your last days. But look, have hope! Islands on the horizon! With no other options in sight, you begin sailing towards unknown lands. Adventure awaits!

Jason’s Notes

Star Wars
Saga Edition

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Character Backstory-Focused

Jordan’s Campaign Description

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

The destruction of the droid forces spreads across the galaxy! The Clone Wars are quickly approaching its end as the Separatist holdouts fall one by one to the dominating Grand Army of the Republic throughout the Outer Rim Sieges. With
the Confederacy of Independent Systems sure to fail under the immense military pressure, Chancellor Palpatine has called the senate into session to announce ultimate victory. However, the representatives are unaware of the treasonous plot meant to supplant the galactic government that has stood for thousands of years. Elsewhere in the galaxy, a group of disbanded civilians will be drawn together, and forced to choose a side in a new conflict that will shape the stars….

Jordan’s Notes

A session 0 is required before our first official meeting, where I will help you make your character (starting at level 5), flesh out your backstory, choose your destiny, and play through/learn the Star Wars Saga Edition System.

Books can be provided, as well as additional tools to help you as the player.
You gain a level at the end of each session. Plan to be awesome.

This game is about your characters, and I will do my best to guide you in creating what you want from what alien species and class to what equipment I’d recommend. Go crazy and we’ll work to make it happen within the game’s rules, and might even bend one or two in favor of the rule of cool.

The campaign will be set in 14BBY, just after Order 66. The Empire has just begun, but most of what you’ll encounter is Clone Wars era things. As a party, you’ll have to choose a to support the rise of the new order, if you will vie for the independent systems, or simply work for interested parties throughout the galaxy.

Obligatory NO EWOKS rant. Feel free to read if you’d like a kick out of it: You are not allowed to play an ewok. They are small teddy bears on a moon that is barely visited on the fringes of the galaxy. They are not space-faring creatures and are not in contact with civilization to get around that fact until way into the war between the Empire and the Rebellion. I DON’T CARE IF IT IS LISTED IN THE MAIN PLAYER’S HANDBOOK AS A RACE, DO NOT PLAY AN EWOK!

DM Cory Vandenberg

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 2
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World
  • Anti-Railroading
  • Pro-Plot Progression
  • The fun is in the roleplay

Cory’s Campaign Description

You are new initiates in an Imperial training ground for the exceptional and heroic. What was supposed to be five years of training to hone your skills is cut short when war breaks out. Now you must act as the law and order for the homefront as nearly every able bodied person is sent out to the front line. Your party will have to endure the consequences of enforcing the law in a nation where the people have to fight for everything they have as a growing police state begins to take over the whole system.

Cory’s Notes

I have a hard and fast rule that chaotic evil is banned, and other evil characters require DM approval. Anticipate rules being treated fairly consistently, but if a rule is “anti-fun” I tend to adjust it so it doesn’t ruin the game experience.
