Full Info Spring 2020

Here you’ll find info on the upcoming campaigns for Spring Quarter 2020.
Fill out the Player Sign-Up Form by Saturday, March 14 at 11:59pm.

Key

New Campaigns are at the top and any Continuing Campaigns will be at the bottom of the list.

Likelihood of Running

Some of our DMs are serving as backups. We’ve included them on this list in case you really, really want to play with them, but be sure to keep this in mind! We recommend selecting mostly campaigns that are guaranteed to run next quarter to ensure you don’t have complications getting into a campaign. We cannot guarantee our backups will run.

The ranking system of likeliness is as follows:

  1. I plan to be a DM this quarter
  2. I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary
  3. I’m fine either way
  4. I’d rather be a player but I could DM if necessary*
  5. Last resort: if the world ends and every other DM is obliterated, I could DM*

*NOTE: 4’s and 5’s are not posted on the website as they are super heckin’ backups. We only post them if we’re really in a pinch.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Here you’ll find all the logistic info to consider how badly you want to join the campaign.

First, there’s the game system, meaning which tabletop role-playing game (RPG) the DM is going to run. Most of our DMs run traditional Dungeons & Dragons (DND), though some run other fun things as well!
Just below that, you’ll see what edition of the game system they’ll be running. Not all tabletop RPGs have multiple editions, but some of them do. This is important because some of the core mechanics (rules) can change from edition to edition. For example, DND has been in existence since 1974 and has changed dramatically since then. The most recent edition, 5th edition, was published in 2014.

Below that, you’ll see if this is a brand new campaign, or what’s known as a continuing campaign. Sometimes, DMs start a campaign that will last longer than the nine sessions we have in a quarter. They will list their campaign as “continuing” to indicate if they are running the same campaign that they ran last quarter.
You can still join a continuing campaign even if you weren’t in it while it previously ran. Continuing players have priority for open spots, but if someone leaves or the DM otherwise has open spots, you might be able to join!

Note: continuing campaigns do not meet in the fall. A continuing campaign can only happen in winter or spring to ensure that freshman get a chance to meet DUDADers.

Silliness Index is an important stat to DUDAD. Some DMs like to run goofy games that are chock-full of memes and jokes and silly times. Some DMs like a more serious campaign that tells a grounded, narrative structure. The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being a very serious, grounded campaign and 5 being an overall goof-fest.

The scale of the campaign indicates how high the stakes are, which is also on a range of 1 to 5. Do you like tight-knit stories where your character is solving a small mystery, or would you rather have the fate of the multiverse in your hands? Smaller-scaled campaigns (1) will have those small, focused stories, while larger-scaled campaigns (5) will have much more epic proportions.

Rule adherence is how strictly the DMs plan to stick to their system’s rules. 1 means there’s a lot of flexibility, 5 means this campaign is to the book.

Commitment level indicates how committed the DM expects players to be. A 1 is a low level of commitment, so your DM would probably be chill if you had to miss a few meetings. A 5 is a high level of commitment, which means you will most likely be expected be fully engaged and at every meeting during the quarter.

Features give players an idea of what the DMs play-style is like. Like a lot of combat where death is around the corner? There are characteristics for that. Do you enjoy more role-playing? That exists too.

Campaign Description

This is one of the most important things you’ll find on this page. The description is what the DM has written to let you know what kind of adventure you’ll be going on. If you have a favorite setting (e.g. pirates or space-themed) or you wanna know what your party will be up against, this is where to find that. Be sure to keep in mind the stats above too! If you’re not into zombies usually but you see all their stats are your style, you might be surprised at what a fun time you can have!

Notes

We try to tailor our DM sign-ups to have all the information a DM might need, but occasionally we leave out certain details or the DM has something game-specific they want you, the players, to know. Not every DM will provide notes for their campaign, which is okay. That usually means all the info you need is above! The notes section can have helpful information about the campaign!

If anything doesn’t make sense or is generally gobble-dee-gook, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know! We try to make the sign up experience as easy as we can.

Happy Adventuring!

DM Connor Estelle

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Gamma World
All TSR-Made Editions

Connor’s Campaign Description

Gamma World is an old post-apocalyptic sci-fi game that was developed back when TSR still made Dungeons and Dragons. The world-building offers a lot of creative and interesting choices, and I will be running this game very nonchalantly (because remembering every single rule can be difficult). If you like Mad Max or the subject matter of old Black Sabbath songs, this is the campaign for you!

Connor’s Notes

I will let you be any sort of mutant, robot, or human you want, with the exception of being something overpowered. For example, you can’t be a robot that has a plethora of nukes to launch at enemies. Also, you can do whatever you want in this campaign, the sky’s the limit.

DM Nick Bascone

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Rule of Cool
  • Plot-Focused

Nick’s Campaign Description

In a world where magic is dying, you and your party are some of the last remaining magic users in existence, and you are being hunted for your magical prowess. You are travelling to your place of refuge, a country next door called Estrella to escape before the government finds you. Will you make it in time, or will you become the government’s next unwilling victims?

Nick’s Notes

Disclaimer: I will try to have session zero with each of my players. If you have a session zero with me and give me a backstory before session 1 you recieve a free magic item (DM’s discretion of course).

My campaign offers a thriller experience with some cool survival themes for some more serious players. I don’t allow the mystic class. No PVP or stealing from party members. I allow unearthed arcana, only if you run it by me first. I am open to homebrew if you email it to me at nicholas.bascone@du.edu.

It is recommended that you play a full caster(bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, warlock, wizard), half caster(artificer, paladin, ranger), or third caster (eldritch knight, arcane trickster), but if you have a good backstory for a melee combatant or would like to play a magically themed subclass (four elements monk, wild magic barbarian), I am flexible.

DM Allison Fox

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Open World

Allison’s Campaign Description

The land of the Cross, a lawless place between two empires, may be harsh and unforgiving, but it has a place for any who work to carve their own into the cold mountainside. You have been hired as caravan guards, tasked with seeing a shipment through the mountains as the last warm days of autumn slip away. But larger forces are always at work, and kingdoms fall and old things stir deep in the forests. In this world heavily inspired by mythology and folklore, hang a horseshoe on your doorframe and get ready for some Fey fuckery the likes of which you hopefully haven’t seen since your high school’s production of Midsummer Night’s Dream!

Allison’s Notes

I’ll send y’all some background info a little bit beforehand through email, but I plan for most of the set-up to be done during the first session. You will be starting at level 4, and any primary published material will be fine, as long as you have a good backstory for it! Material from secondary worlds (like Eberron or Ravnica) and other stuff like UA and homebrew will have to be run by me first, but there’s a good chance I’ll say yes. 🙂

DM Chyna Tilman

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Medium Mortality Rate
  • Medium Difficulty
  • Open World

Chyna’s Campaign Description

Once upon a time, when literature was embraced by all, the beautiful and turbulent world of Sagadella was created. Sagadella is the world of great literature, where the characters of the greatest literary works, especially fairy tales, live. Every fairy tale has its iconic items, of such importance they have been super charged and imbued with magic. With so many valuable items, there’s a large call for bounty hunters, a prospering field you have all just entered. You will soon find there is a lot more to this field than you expected though. You will be exposed to a variety of conflicts across the world, political issues and issues of your own morality. Will you lean into them, or avoid them all together?

Chyna’s Notes

Aasimars are not permitted as player characters.

DM Audrey Bacon

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Rule of Cool
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Combat-Heavy
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Linear World

Audrey’s Campaign Description

Sound is vanishing and it’s all starting with music. In desperation the people of the world have summoned the muses: you. Each genre of music has manifested itself to protect sound and revive music in the land. You and the rest of the muses must make your way to where the sound is being hoarded while eliminating as many of the Silencing’s Minions as possible. A JRPG based campaign with random encounters and singing. Each character is a genre of music that is incorporated into their character so this is a campaign well suited for people with a tendency for the theatrical as singing is encouraged and musical knowledge is a must!

Audrey’s Notes

Singing is part of game play so if you’re shy about your voice or just in general this might not be the most comfortable campaign for you.

DM Jordyn Merrit

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition with some Homebrew

Silliness Index: 3
Scale: 4
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • High Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty

Jordyn’s Campaign Description

Death is inevitable for all but the unlucky, and you’ve certainly never been more unlucky. Somewhere between the domains of life and death you’ve been forgotten, becoming a blind spot in the eyes of the gods. On the upside, you and your fellow Forgotten can never truly die! On the downside, with the passage of time, even your once-fellow mortals seem less and less able to hold you in their memory. Unwilling to vanish into the cold shadows of history, you and your fellows must utilize anything you can to make the world remember who you are, or continuously not die trying!

Jordyn’s Notes

First session will be a session 0, but please come in with an idea for your character! If you want to play a character with a patron/god, let me know as soon as you can so we can talk about what’s going to happen about that in the setting. PvP allowed, but don’t be a jerk about it.

DM Eli Depper

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition
Custom Pantheon

Silliness Index: 2
Scale: 3

Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Light
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Medium Mortality Rate

Eli’s Campaign Description

Zephrun is a kingdom ruled over by monarchs chosen by the divine, but the divine right of the kings isn’t limited to the bloodline currently on the throne. After the recent untimely demise of the king, messengers are sent out to the far reaches of the kingdom to find those who have been blessed. You are one of the barely half dozen that arrives. The trials of the crown used to be massive quests to weed out those unsuited, but in the past there are usually around four or five dozen candidates. What is happening to the successors to the throne?

Eli’s Campaign Description

Week one will be for character creation. There will be a custom pantheon that I will explain then, but if you want to play a divine minded character email me and I will explain it ahead of time.

DM Abigayle “Abby” Scadden

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 4
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low-Mortality Rate
  • Low Difficulty

Abigayle’s Campaign Description

You’ve received a letter asking you to find the ancient city of Ambergate! The letter tells you to go to The Shaking Lantern, a shady tavern in the center of the country. You have heard rumors that Ambergate contains great power, and when power is involved, everybody wants a piece. Are you up for the challenge?

Abigayle’s Notes

We will have a session 0 for character building, so please brainstorm some ideas over break!

DM Marcus Merritt

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition with some Homebrew

Silliness Index: 5
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • 100% Improvisation
  • Collaborative
  • Character-Driven
  • Roleplay-Heavy
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Low Difficulty
  • Open World

Marcus’ Campaign Description

Every Dungeon Master knows the pain of trying to plan and run a D&D session. Half the time, the players don’t even get to the content you prepared. You plan for everything you can think of, and the party chooses to play ninth dimension chess with a pigeon instead. At some point, every exasperated Dungeon Master asks themselves a question: Why bother planning at all?

This campaign is the result of that question.

Marcus’ Notes

Almost every aspect of this game will be determined by group vote, as this campaign is centered around group improvisation. The “Lucky” feat is banned because I’m mean and I don’t like it, but everything else is allowed.

DM Kevin Kurtzman

Likelihood of Running

I’m fine either way.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Overwatch Homebrew

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 2
Commitment Level: 3
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Character-Driven
  • Low Mortality-Rate
  • Medium Difficulty

Kevin’s Campaign Description

It was easier during the war. Extraordinary people went in, won, and were hailed as heroes. People looked up to them, admired them, which was all a part of being a member of Overwatch. But seasons changed, Overwatch was disbande. Its members scattered to the winds, the team was gone. To the scattered members of Overwatch, this is Winston calling you home. The world needs us once more, will you answer the call?

Kevin’s Notes

Solo sessions are highly encouraged (mandatory).

DM Hannah Renea “HR” Bumgarner

Likelihood of Running

I’d rather be a DM but I would be fine playing if necessary.

Game System, Edition & Stats

Dungeons & Dragons
5th Edition

Silliness Index: 3
World Scale: 3
Rule Adherence: 4
Commitment Level: 4
Expected Duration: 1 Quarter

Features

  • Wholesome
  • Woodland
  • World-Focused
  • Plot-Focused
  • Combat-Medium
  • Roleplay-Medium
  • Low Mortality Rate
  • Low Difficulty
  • Linear World

HR’s Campaign Description

Something is wrong in Humblewood. The Scorched Grove, a barren stretch of land home only to strange fire elementals, seems to be growing, causing unseasonal dryness, crop failure–and more frequent forest fires. There has also been a number of unusually aggressive emberbat clouds reported far outside of their natural ranges. Find a way to stop the fire before it reduces the Wood to ashes!

HR’s Notes

I’m using the Humblewood Campaign Setting, which is 5e compatible but has its own races and subclasses. Thus, the first sesh will be a session zero to hammer out character details. Levels 1-5 throughout the campaign. Also, please be focused on cooperation and kindness. ❤ I’m not a fan of PvP situations.

Continuing Campaigns

DM Kylie Dillinger

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

The mission has changed from stopping what’s in this Keep to finding and saving the missing member, and time is running out.

Kylie’s Notes

I am still intending to turn this campaign into a novel, and will be recording sessions. I will ask for your individual consent on everything beforehand.

DM Clint Cordova

Likelihood of Running

I plan to be a DM this quarter.

Game System, Edition, & Stats

Early Dark
